PICKLEBALL MACHINE -- please READ

Pickleball Machine Information

The ball machines are maintained by TPPCI volunteers. These folks have been trained on the best practices for each of the machines to keep them in good working order. PLEASE do not attempt to do any repairs or clean the throw wheels on your own. If you have a problem with any of the machines, contact one of us and we will address the issue. Our contact information is posted on the wall above the Simon X (Blue) machine. We would also like to reiterate several items related to the ball machines:

  1. As of now, there are specific pickleballs that are used in each of the machines. Please do not mix them up.
  • A. The Simon X (Blue) machine uses the Durofast 40 balls. Those balls are pale yellow and neon in color but the distinguishing identification is they have both larger and smaller holes.
  • B. The Tutor (Green) machine uses Franklin X balls that are either pale pink or yellow ones with a black X marked on them. The holes on these balls are all the same size.
  • C. The ERNE (Red and Black) machine uses special training balls that are half yellow and half black. These balls are stored in the green hopper container behind where ERNE is stored.
  1. DO’s and DON’T’s
  • A. Do plug the machine charger in when finished with your practice. Check that the charger indicator light is illuminated. NOTE – ERNE will not charge unless the power switch on the rear control panel is in the MIDDLE / OFF position.
  • B. If a ball is hit back into the machine, stop the machine ASAP. Turn the machine off with the power switch and reach in and remove the ball from the area around the throw wheels. If you cannot retrieve the ball, do not continue using the machine and notify one of us of the problem.
  • C. The Simon X is a very heavy machine and has four wheels on the ground when it is tilted back and being moved. The wheels can easily skid and cause marks on the court surface if you attempt to turn the machine too sharply. Make wide, slow turns to maneuver the machine into position.
  • D. The ball hopper carousel on the ERNE machine had to be replaced due to continued jamming of balls in the hopper. We have since learned that the TELESCOPING HANDLE MUST BE FULLY DOWN IN THE STOWED POSITION WHEN OPERATING THE MACHINE! Stowing and extending the handle is easiest when the hopper is empty. Best practice is to extend the handle, move the machine into position, stow the handle, then fill the hopper with balls.
