PickleBall Fix:A pril 10,2020
Your Pickleball "Fix" for Friday, April 10 is here, and do we have great news for you! The TPPC 10th anniversary just got even better. The Timber Pines BOD met on Monday, April 6 and passed AFEs to approve funding for site work on Lot 8, building 12 lighted pickleball courts, a pavilion with restrooms, sidewalks, shade structures and landscaping. Although Timber Pines is still under its "stay at home" CDC ruling, work can begin on the Lot 8 site preparation. With the TPPC and TP Boards working together, our goal of 12 world class pickleball courts with all the needed features is becoming a reality. Representatives from the TPPC have and will continue to meet with TP to make sure the new courts are what we all
want.
Some happy TPPC picklers are already starting their virtual celebration at the news of the pickleball courts' funding! Canadians Anne and Paul Caverhill are raising their bottles of Moosehead beer to start the party. Join in and send your celebration photos to Steve Fortin at skfortin1637@yahoo.com. Steve will post more photos as members celebrate so check the website often. On the website http://www.tppickleballclub.org, just click QuickLinks > Photo/Video Gallery > Fun Photos. Let's all celebrate!
Pickleball Balance Tips - How to Play Better and Stay Injury-Free
You've seen a few videos showing ways to practice your pickleball skills. This week the focus is on exercises to keep you fit so that you're ready to play pickleball when the courts reopen. As older players, one thing that may have become problematic is your balance. CJ Johnson at Better Pickleball has created a video containing five exercises (https://tinyurl.com/umsq7nm) to help you improve your balance. Whether at beginner, intermediate, or advanced levels, take just five minutes and do one or two of these exercises three times a week to help you play better pickleball. Take a look at another video on balance (https://tinyurl.com/wfhyvm8) to help you stay injury free. The Better Pickleball website also has a number of other fitness and warm-up exercises, and more.
Practice at Home: Comments from Marie Knowlton
Last week after watching the videos on creating a pickleball practice area, I modeled my own court outside the 4' x 8' entryway to our house. With this short practice video at https://tinyurl.com/w5jhxba, I say hi to all our members. I wish you well and can honestly say a simple practice like this can help improve soft game skills. Watch the video by clicking QuickLinks > Photo/Video Gallery > Fun Photos and the MK Practice 2020.mov. You can do this too!
Note: Anyone who's tried an exercise or a bit of practice, please send your experiences to Bev Crane at beverley_crane@hotmail.com. I'm sure all our picklers would enjoy your adventures.
For Your Reading Pleasure
You've done all your exercises and practice. Now it's time to take a rest. What better way than reading through your latest pickleball magazine. Several of our members have asked us to let you know about Pickleball Magazine (https://tinyurl.com/ufvpu3o) and complementary copies they have been receiving through email. This issue's subtitle For Your Health fits right in with what we're all going through these days with the COVID-19 pandemic. Read the headline: "Physicians reveal how pickleball improves your physical, mental, and emotional well-being." Read this article and some of the others!
I also want to give a shoutout to three of our own pickleball ladies - Karen LaMirand, Kathie Cocchi, and Patty Rocheleau - who have spent so much of their spare time sewing masks for Club members and many others in Timber Pines to help with the unending shortage. We all thank you for your dedication and hard work in this time of need.
This week we've given you a little pickleball practice, some exercise to keep you fit, and a bit of relaxing reading - your picklelball "fix" for this week. Until next week, be safe and keep thinking pickleball,
Marie Knowlton, TPPCP cc: Bev Crane, Communications
