PickleBall Fix: April9 ,2021
We’ve been having some lovely days for pickleball play and the full courts reflect the nice weather. Reminder: A video of the Annual Meeting is on the TPPC website; it takes about an hour to watch or listen to at https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1nFMDU1NpUXUoCumxodn39OpfVPBn9lxo
GALS ONLY. The 2022 five-day all inclusive Getaway will take place at Club Med at Port St. Lucie, FL from Jan. 31 to Feb. 4, 2022 for a cost of $649. The Morning Clinic is full, but pickleball play is available in the afternoon. For details on the trip, contact Barb Lacek at bltennis13@gmail.com.
Member Updates. Donny Rooks and Dottie Weichel
--Warmest wishes to Donnie Rooks, newly elected Board Director, instructor, and coordinator of Donny’s Social Wednesday Night Events, for a rapid recovery from removal of a kidney on Tuesday due to a tumor. Fortunately, the doctor was able to remove it robotically which will make recovery quicker. He goes back to the doctor in 2 weeks and will hopefully be released to play pickleball shortly thereafter. Donnie wants to thank the members of the pickleball club for being so caring and supportive during this time.
In fact, yesterday he was recuperating sitting in his usual chair at the Courts. We’re sure he’ll be up to his old tricks again in no time! And to his wife Barbara, who helps the Club in so many ways creating the Wednesday night giveaways, the design of court signs for the new Courts and so much more. Best to you in this stressful time.
--Dottie Weichel, a Club member for a number of years who had a stroke previously, has suffered another stroke. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers for her complete recovery so she will be back on the Courts with us again soon. Dottie, you’re in all our warmest thoughts as you recover from your stroke. Hope you feel a little better every day!
A Note from Member Bonnie Long
My family and I want to thank everyone who came to Gene's Celebration of Life last Wednesday. His legacy will live on through his family, pickleball friends, golfing buddies and friends. I also want to thank all who have supported me during this sad and difficult time. Your kind words, cards and your love is greatly appreciated.
Love, Bonnie Long and family
Committee Updates
Members who signed up at the Annual Meeting as volunteers for TPPC committees have not wasted time in getting started. As mentioned at the Meeting, a Board Director will be a liaison to each Committee with a designated Leader to head it. If you would still like to volunteer, contact one of the officers to sign you up for Committee(s) of your choice.
The Medical Committee met and reviewed items in the First Aid Kit and other items needed for emergencies at the courts. Leader Pat Thayer is organizing supplies now. During the summer while Pat is away, Bob Dalley will take over as Leader.
Just a reminder of the following if a player falls and/or sustains any injury at the courts:
--Have the player remain down until someone (hopefully one with some medical training) has talked to the player to try to identify any injury. The player should stay down until they are able to get up by themselves or medical help arrives.
--The first aid kit and another box containing some supplies are on the shelf under the Bulletin Board. --The AED is located in the Red box under the shade structure nearest the parking lot.
--If it seems an injury needs medical attention:
Call 911 and provide the Lodge address (6872 Timber Pines Blvd)
Call TP security (666-2144)
Dispatch a person to the street entrance nearest to the pickleball parking area to direct emergency vehicles to the injured person
--Information is located on the Lodge Bulletin Board.
Pickleball Equipment
--PADDLES. Along with pickleball paddles the Club bought, Timber Pines has also donated several paddles for use by the TPPC members and their guests. Over this last week with many guests visiting in Timber Pines, members have signed up guests to play on the Courts. Several have made use of the paddles. We welcome guests to play; however, if paddles are used they need to be returned to the boxes on the pool side of the courts upon completing a session of play. Paddles have been taken home to use on another day and some have disappeared.
If you are a new player, using a Club paddle or you have a guest using one, please make sure it is replaced in the equipment boxes at the courts when you are finished playing. Other players may also like to use these paddles.
--BALLS. The Pickleball Club pays for all balls used on the Courts from your dues. The Club tries to make sure a sufficient number of balls are available on the Courts at all times. Balls do break, but please make sure that balls are replaced in the baskets on the Courts when you finish play so there is a sufficient number for each day’s play.
The Saturday Dink/Drink pickleball event is at 5p at the Courts so sign up on the Den.
Keep picklin’!
