PickleBall Fix: May 28, 2021

Four new members joined the Pickleball Club this week, bringing the total membership to 706! The June play schedule is ready for sign-up on Den. See below for more details.

Chef Karen Toof created quite a “breakfast” for dinner for 50+ members at this past Saturday night cookout. Her dishes ranged from pancakes and French toast to spinach souffle, cheese tater tots to egg dishes. The variety was certainly tasty and members’ contributions added to a delicious dinner for all. Thanks, Karen, for such a great start to our Chef nights!

Volunteers Needed

--Cookout Volunteers. Thanks to those who volunteered at the Cookout on Saturday to help with check in, setting up tables, and cleaning up. We need volunteers for those tasks each week so if you are planning to come to the cookout and can spend a few minutes helping before or after, please contact Helen at tppcvolunteers@gmail.com.

--Paddle Up Volunteers. The Paddle Up event offers members the opportunity to play with different players of varied skill levels. Some members have been playing in this event; others are new to it. Volunteers are needed to act as Monitors to get the games started and explain how “paddle up” is played.

To volunteer as a monitor, please add “Monitor” in the comment line under your name when you sign up for the event. Once this process becomes familiar to players, the event will easily run itself.

Here’s how Paddle Up works:

--From the paddle holder, the monitor selects the first four paddles and sends those 4 players to one court. --When the game is over, winners stay on the court and split up.

--Losers leave the court and put their paddles in the next available slots on the paddle holder.

--The monitor then sends out the next two players who will each play with one of the winners.

The same process is followed as each court becomes available. Monitors can also play once the process gets started.

Potluck Cookout

Saturday night’s cookout on May 29 is the first “Potluck” style event this year. Each attendee is a “chef” and brings a dish. It can be your “specialty” ranging from a main dish (e.g., meat, pasta, veggie/potatoes) to different types of salads, an appetizer, or your favorite dessert, to name some possibilities. Figure on a dish to share with 6- 8 people. Also bring your drink and a chair as usual. A $3 fee is collected. You will still sign up on the Den by 12 noon, Thursday, to attend the Potluck and check in at the Courts on Sat.

NOTE: 2 Chefs Needed.

--We have a cancellation for “Chef for June” so if a current volunteer would like to change their date to Sat., June 19 or if another person wants to volunteer for that date, please contact Helen at tppcvolunteers@gmail.com.

--A Chef is also needed for July! Please contact Helen with the July Sat. date and the entree you plan to make.

June Play Schedule on Den

Sign up for the June Play Schedule on the Den. It is attached to this email, also on the TPPC website (http://www.tppickleballclub.org/tppc_schedulejunecourtfinalv3.pdf) and will be posted on the Lodge Bulletin Board. Because most of the snowbirds have left and the weather is getting warmer, there is less demand for structured sessions like Men’s/ Ladies’ Day events during the day.

Here are some specific changes from the May schedule:

--The start times for Donny’s Wed. Night events: Earlier event time is 4-6pm and later time is 6-8pm. Sign up on the Den now for Wed., June 2.

--Lessons are still on Mon 9-11am and Drills on Wed 9:30-11am.

--Skinny Singles is Sat 11:30am-1pm and 2nd/4th Mon. 6-8pm. Paddle Up format.

--6-8pm has more structured sessions including Men’s/Ladies’ Days (Tues, Thurs) and Round Robin (Sun). ABCD Partners is still on Fri 4-6pm.

--Additional Open Play and Paddle Up sessions are listed at different times during the day.

REMEMBER: If you have signed up on Den and can't play, remove yourself from Den by unchecking the box beside the event. That frees up a spot and allows someone else to take your place.

New TPPC First Aid Kit

A new first aid kit is available at the Lodge Courts next to the gate leading into the Courts on the parking lot side. Inside the wooden box is a red bag that can be carried to a person who is injured. The bag contains bandaging and first aid supplies (e.g., cold packs, gloves, paper towels, tape, ointment, to name some). Please note items used and also an emergency timeline of what occurred in notebooks in the bag. Contact Bob Dalley at 248-703-3341 for questions.

See you at the Saturday night Potluck Cookout! PLEASE BRING CORRECT CHANGE!
