NEW YEARS EVE KUDOS
Among the many compliments, kudos and thanks extended to the New Year’s Eve committee for the tremendous Dec 31 event, this note from John & Lisa Boyle expresses the level of appreciation offered by many member attendees and their guests. Sounds like we nailed it!! Read on …
“Hi Marie, John and I thank you and all of the many volunteers who designed, sold tickets, planned, shopped, prepared, cooked, decorated and served a beautiful appetizer (charcuterie) array, and delicious meal at our wonderful New Year's Eve party. And the music too was amazing. We had a terrific evening seeing old friends and making new ones! Thank you to The Pickleball Club directors for your many hours of organizing to make the club run smoothly, and all of the other many volunteers who work countless hours and do countless beneficial good works! Happy New Year to all!! Signed, John and Lisa Boyle.”
BALL MACHINES
Just a basic housekeeping note. One of the ball machines was not plugged in when a class was taught last Sunday. It was dead, and couldn't be used. Altho there was a work around employed, everybody got what they needed, and all went home happy, the point is PLEASE remember to make sure when you use a ball machine, you plug it in its corresponding charger when you’re done. The cables are color-coded by machine color for your convenience. Also make sure that the light on the Charger turns on which indicates it is in fact charging.
PLAY WITH MENTOR – part 2
Based on demand/interest, we added an additional Play With Mentor session. So, on Saturdays at 1PM, we will use Courts 2 & 3 and designate one, Court 2, for Level B players, and Court 3, for Level C. The Mentor is free to mix up the players depending on their demonstrated skill levels. Sign-up in the Den for the appropriate court. Limit is 4 players per court.
NEW DIRECTOR APPOINTMENTS
We are pleased to welcome Kenny Garvin as our newest Director thru March 28, 2024. Also, Diane Beaudoin was chosen by acclimation, and accepted, to be our Vice-President until then. We are at full strength again thru our next Member’s Annual Meeting next March.
CPR/AED TRAINING
Once again, we’re offering a CPR/AED class to be held in March or April. We did several clinics last year with great success. Looking for 8-10 folks to make it happen. Interested? Contact Pat Thayer. Thank you for participating.
NEXT PADDLE UP (NPU) PROCOCOLS
Please be considerate of fellow members and follow the rules of NPU. Winners stay, losers sit. Loser paddle to the back of the rack. You play with whoever’s paddle comes up next. It's understandable wanting to practice with your partner for an upcoming event. If that’s the case, just book a court at another, non-prime time. Thanks for your cooperation.
COOKOUTS
The next cookout is January 20th. Karen Toof is the cook. She will be preparing her famous pulled pork. We will also be having some music. Bonus, candidates for the TPCA BOD are invited to speak. Entry is $5 towards the main dish and a side dish to share. Those that list in the Notes area of the Den sign-up sheet what they are bringing for a side dish, will get preferred dining. Please sign up early. Remember, if you take your name off the list after the 5:50pm deadline Thursday evening, or don’t show up, put your $5 with your name in the TPPCI mail box, since food will have been purchased for you. Thank you for your cooperation so we can continue to offer these events. We are looking for cooks for March cookouts. If you would like to volunteer, please contact Diane Beaudoin.
JANUARY TOURNAMENT
Our next tournament is being held Jan 26th and 27th. If you have not signed up yet, please do it quickly, as brackets are filling up rapidly. If you cannot play for any reason or want to just come see what a tournament is all about, please consider volunteering to help on game day. We need many helpers to make it go smoothly. Guys, these are not tough jobs. You can do it. If you can help us, please contact Tom Asbel or Diane Beaudoin.
NAME RECOGNITION
Anyone notice how often Diane Beaudoin is mentioned as an event contact? That’s why the Spotlight was on her recently. And read on – there’s more Diane to come!
THE PICKLEBALL BASH
It’s that time again. Let's start planning our amazing Pickleball BASH, which will be held on March 22nd! We would like to have a committee formed to help with decorations, etc. This year the BASH will be fully catered and held at the PAC, so no need to worry about cooking. If you would like to join this committee, or would like to help in any way, please contact Diane Beaudoin at at dianebeaudoin21@gmail.com.
DIRECTOR SPOTLIGHT (PART 2)
This month’s Spotlight shines on Mel Kohlberg. Mel was voted onto the Pickleball Club Board of Directors in October, 2022. He brought with him a financial background and corporate experience in technical writing. Mel’s 8+ years in residence here has included, among other activities, 6 years on the Timber Pines Internal Audit Committee and a term on the Timber Pines Board of Directors. He is the TPPC Communications Director creating all published materials, including this Friday Fix. Mel regularly plays with multiple skill levels both for enjoyment and to stay in touch with members’ needs and ideas. Mel calls his volunteer work “giving back”. It is a great concept.
BOARD MEETING HIGHLIGHTS
You missed a fun-packed Board meeting Tuesday. Lots of topics covered, in particular regarding scheduling. Be watching in the next weeks for detailed information coming out in separate mailings, including negotiations with TPCA management about our Pickleball Den system vs Jonas; allocation of courts for more general member usage; a petition from players about morning hours; and we discussed at length, and ultimately approved, instituting a court reservation system thru Den. All that, and only an hour-and-a-half to get through it all. Come next month.
SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
Please see the attached Schedule of Events PDF file for a detailed list of all events scheduled for the coming week. We are transitioning into some major changes effective this year.
