Pickleball Fix

by Bev Crane

NOTE: The Den had technical difficulties yesterday in case you could not get on. It is running as usual now and sign-up for events is available.

More than 100 residents and Club members enjoyed the festivities at the TPPC 40th Anniversary Celebration at the new PARC Pickleball Courts. Starting at 11am with greetings from TP President Mike Murphy and Manager Kevin Sebbring, the Pickleball Board then cut the ribbon of pickleballs officially opening the PARC site and 12 new pickleball courts. The day progressed with food, drink, music, tours of the site and demonstrations of pickleball events played by members of the TPPC. Tired but having enjoyed a fun day, all left about 4 pm. Thanks to all the volunteers who participated in the events, food sales, music, tours, and welcoming folks—we had a great turnout to help make it a great occasion.

Congratulations! On Sat Feb 26, 27, Club members Tom and Pam Asbel and Tracy Smith and Art DeVos participated in the Pickleball Veritas in the Ancient City Tournament in St. Augustine, FL. Partners Tom Asbel and Art DeVos won the Gold Medal in the Men’s 3.5, 70+ category. As Partners in the Women’s 3.5 60+ division, Pam Asbel and Tracy Smith took a Bronze medal. Wow--what a great achievement for our Club members. You all certainly excelled and did the Club proud with your superior play!

New From the Mentor Group: Beginning Sessions with Mentors

Are you new to pickleball? Been through the orientation lesson and just don't feel comfortable getting out onto the court with more experienced players? Here's an opportunity to play some pickleball with other beginners and gain confidence. Each session will have a mentor to help guide the group and give some pointers along the way. The sessions for the coming week are Tuesday from 4-5:30pm on Court 1 and Thursday from 11am-12:30pm on Court 1. If you can't stay for the entire period, that's okay. Sign up for sessions on the Den, and if the session is full, put your name on the waitlist.
