PickleBall Fix: August 6, 2021
We’re now into the August schedule with new events, play times and designated courts. However, this week has been so rainy that many events have had to be canceled. The August schedule is on the PARC Bulletin Board and the TPPC website. Check the changes carefully in the new schedule and sign up for the correct courts by skill levels for the events you want.
SAFETY ON THE COURTS - An accident occurred on the Courts which emphasizes the importance of safety while playing pickleball. Doris Karnisky is home now recuperating from a broken wrist suffered in a fall last week. We hope to see her at the courts cheering on her friends until she can play again! Falls can happen when you least expect them so keep in mind the safety rules that you learned when you took lessons and be careful!!
MEDICAL INFORMATION
--The Medical First Aid box under the courts’ shade area has medical supplies in case of an emergency. If you need some, write down what you used in the notebook in the box so supplies can be replenished.
--Phone numbers for TP Gates and the address of the PARC are now on laminated signs on each shade area with phone numbers to call Security. Thanks to Bob Dalley for having TP create the signs and for posting them on the shade areas.
--The AED is at the Pavilion next to a telephone if a call to 911 is needed.
Our Club is lucky to have members with medical training to help out. Thanks to Nurses Barbie Hinchcliffe, Lori Stevens, and Helen Coverdale for helping Doris when she fell and taking control until the ambulance arrived. Your help is appreciated in these emergencies. Bob Dalley and Liz Slater have also recently taken a CPR class for certification.
SATURDAY COOKOUT - Great dishes at the potluck were supplied by members this past week at the Cookout. So glad the Club has such good cooks willing to share their fantastic dishes. Tom Asbel’s raffle prize, a PB Slingbag paddle bag, was won by Bonnie Schmink. Congratulations!
At this Saturday’s cookout Chef Gino will feature sandwiches, and, of course, the specialties from attending members ($3 fee and $1 for a raffle ticket, if desired).
PLAYER SELF-ASSESSMENT RATING - The TPPC gmail account has received self-ratings from several members. The Den will be implementing a page where members can enter their self-ratings. Watch for an update when the Den page becomes available.
NOTE: Members should NOT contact the Den personally. If you have Den problems, contact the Club email and the Club tech folks will get in touch and work on the problem with you.
PARC OPENING CEREMONIES/OPEN HOUSE - The TPPC is planning an all-day ceremony/open house in November to celebrate the opening of the PARC pickleball courts. Volunteers will be needed for this occasion. If you are willing to help, please contact Helen DeGirolamo or Cathi Ellingson at TPPCvolunteers@gmail.com. More details to follow.
VOLUNTEER THANKS - Each week regular and special events are successful because of member volunteers, and the Club runs smoothly with the aid of those of you who help out. The Club would like to thank you all for giving your time and energy each week.
See you at the Saturday night cookout! PLEASE BRING CORRECT CHANGE!

Other Schedule Updates
--“All levels designation” is listed at certain times on Saturday.
--Open Plays will limit sign-up to six players per court. The “Wait List” feature has been removed. If there is a group that has more than six players, they will need to start a new court for that time slot.
--Introduces more Next Paddle Ups.
--Sunday Night Round Robin is removed.
--The schedule now has a 5-6pm time slot and a 6-9pm time slot to accommodate evening events.
--Evening lesson/orientation will be held from 6-7:30pm on the1st and 3rd Monday.
--Friday Partners ABCD will start at 6pm.
--Men’s Day (T), Ladies Day (Th), and Donny’s ABCD (W) will be held from 6-9pm.
--9-11am Novice/Beginner courts (Courts 3-4) will be designated as Next Paddle Up for all levels each day except Saturday.
NOTICE: When you sign up for a round robin, (e.g., Donny’s ABCD, or Ladies/Men’s Days or Partners) please arrive 15 minutes before the start time. This enables the coordinator to set the match-ups so play can start on time. If you arrive later, the coordinator has to wait for all to arrive, and you are keeping all other participants waiting. Thanks to those who arrive 15 minutes early and to those who will now make an effort to also arrive early. Your colleagues appreciate it!
Saturday Night Cookouts
Our cookout on Saturday Night, July 23, was a big hit, featuring pizza as the main dish from the TP Pizza Shop. More than 45 members had sausage, cheese, and mushroom/onion pizzas combined with salads, desserts and appetizers brought by attendees. Thanks to Tom Asbel for organizing the evening including getting all of the pizzas. Our traditional potluck is this week on Sat. July 31. All members bring their favorite dish for 6-8 people to share and join us at 5:30pm at the PARC (cost $3).
Round Robin Tournament
The Sunday Round Robin tournament on July 25 was a huge success. The bleachers and tables were full of spectators cheering on exciting and fun play. 30 players (15 teams) participated with teams placed in a division of five based on skill level. The skill levels ranged from beginner through advanced. Thanks to all who participated and those who came out to watch.
The August round robin tournament will be held on Sunday, August 29, beginning at 6:00pm. Sign up on the Den for the August tournament. Please remember to place your partner’s name in the comments section when signing up. More details to come.
Join the fun playing and meeting many new colleagues on the new PARC courts.
